Wolverine (PS5)

Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine on PS5 gives one of Marvel’s most compelling characters the attention he deserves through interactive narrative. What I've always admired most is the commitment to Logan’s identity: his ferocity, troubled history, and determination to survive. An original adventure gives us room to explore those qualities while celebrating the iconic mutant that Marvel fans love. There is something wonderfully fitting about a Wolverine game that embraces both spectacular action and the painful search for answers beneath it.
The combat’s emphasis on aggression is particularly appealing. Claw attacks, kicks, barrages, and critical strikes put Logan’s physical power at the center of the action. Unlockable Techniques expand his moves, while rechargeable Special Techniques include Tornado Spin and Spiral Strike; four can be equipped at once. I love this approach because Wolverine’s fighting style should communicate urgency and force. Giving players several ways to unleash that strength makes the character’s signature weapons central to the experience.

Progression adds another appealing dimension. Adaptations can improve bullet resistance, increase Rage effectiveness, or widen parry windows, offering ways to shape Logan’s abilities around a preferred approach. His three-tier Rage system emphasizes survival, resilience, and fury. These mechanics suit a character famous for enduring punishment and fighting back. I especially appreciate the connection between his personality and the gameplay design: his stubbornness becomes something players can express through their choices in battle.
The storyline gives that action a meaningful foundation. Logan’s journey involves uncovering his forgotten past while confronting questions of identity and loyalty. Meanwhile, Bolivar Trask’s plans threaten mutant survival, drawing Logan, Jean Grey, and members of Team X into the conflict. That combination is a strong choice for Wolverine: a personal mystery unfolds alongside a danger larger than himself. I find that premise compelling because his search for belonging gains weight when other people’s futures also depend on what he does.
The supporting characters and enemies make the adventure even more enticing. Jean Grey provides opportunities to explore Logan’s vulnerability, while his history with The Hand adds another connection to uncover. Deathstrike and Omega Red bring formidable opposition to the journey. I appreciate that these characters offer more than recognizable names: they create opportunities for relationships, old wounds, and conflicting loyalties to shape the action. Wolverine becomes especially interesting when someone challenges the guarded person beneath his intimidating exterior.
Exploration also reflects Logan’s identity. His senses help locate optional challenges, collectible whisky bottles reveal forgotten memories, and materials support crafting suits inspired by his many appearances. I particularly like collectibles that tell us something about the protagonist. Recovering pieces of Logan’s history gives discovery an emotional purpose, while the costumes celebrate the character’s long life across comics and other media. Those touches make room for quieter curiosity between confrontations.

The presentation deserves appreciation for treating Wolverine’s adventure as a substantial dramatic undertaking. Liam McIntyre portrays Logan, Krizia Bajos plays Jean Grey, and David Fleming composed the score. Bringing those performances and music together supports a story built around anger, uncertainty, and difficult connections. To me, Wolverine’s appeal depends on those emotional contrasts. His intimidating presence draws attention, but moments of vulnerability give audiences a reason to care about where his journey leads.
My view of Marvel’s Wolverine comes from how closely its creative choices fit its central character. Aggressive combat celebrates his power, progression reflects his resilience, and the story explores the burden of a past he cannot fully understand. I love the ambition to give Logan both a thrilling action adventure and a personal struggle worth following. For a character whose claws are instantly recognizable, the most appealing achievement is making space for the man who carries them while giving his strength, anger, and humanity equal attention.
