If you're a longtime fan of the N64 space shooter game, the new StarFox on Nintendo Switch 2 is a nostalgic reimagining of the series that we've all been waiting for. Rather than reinventing the formula, it refines what made the original so memorable: fast-paced on-rails action, branching routes and endlessly replayable missions. The result is a polished experience that respects its roots while taking full advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2's new capabilities.

The visuals are amazing, with beautifully reimagined planets, cinematic cutscenes and fluid 60 FPS gameplay that makes every dogfight feel exhilarating. Flying the Arwing has never been smoother, thanks to responsive controls, HD rumble and new control options that make the game fun for newcomers and those familiar with the older game.

Although the campaign can be completed in a relatively short amount of time, that's all by design. Multiple branching paths, unlockable Expert Mode, Challenge Mode and co-op encourage repeat runs, giving players plenty of reasons to return and discover new routes and secrets.

Whether you're revisiting the Lylat System or experiencing Fox McCloud's adventure for the first time, this was a wonderful debut for the Nintendo Switch 2 and I hope to see more retro imaginings in the future. This was one of my favorite games growing up, so playing this Switch 2 version almost 30 years later truly made me feel like a kid again.
