Detroit Hives

Chemicals often used in agriculture can kill bees and obstruct their ability to reproduce. Along with mites and a variety of other factors, these substances are responsible for the phenomena known as “colony collapse disorder", which severely damages overall agricultural output. Since 1/3 of all human food is derived from bee based pollination, without the bees, people would have to somehow manually pollinate all of the crops. If the bees go, so does mankind. Likewise, many birds are facing extinction as of today. More than a thousand different species are in trouble because of expansion and intensification of farming, which is a consequence, once again, of human activity. This art piece is my contribution to Detroit Hives in order to help spread awareness for the importance and preservation of our bees. 🐝
