A Journey Towards Salvation

Salvation Mountain... what a trip. We were in the Palm Springs area and decided to take the extra hour drive going east to check this landmark out. First of all, you really have to go out of your way to get here, so make sure you have a full tank of gas and your tires are able to withstand the rockiness of the roads. Secondly, I'd advise getting here early to avoid a slew of people. It makes for really amazing pictures when it's just you and nobody else. First of all, kudos to Leonard Knight for taking the time to create this wonderful art piece. It's too bad we couldn't have met him, but this mountain will be the legacy that he has left behind for all of us. The area is completely covered in paint and has been decently maintained over the years. The ultimate and obvious theme revolving around this exhibit is the love, God, and peace in the world. There are a lot of little areas to walk through and everything is just surreal. There are a few trailers stationed in the area, but don't let that scare you off. They won't bother you if you don't bother them. Just park your car, grab your camera, and witness the beauty that is Salvation Mountain.
